Air Force can't fly with Boise State, Broncos win nail-biter

The Broncos had a scare Saturday night in Colorado Springs, but a strong defensive stand led to a 19-14 victory over division rivals Air Force.

After going into halftime leading 19-7, Boise State couldn't muster any points in the second half. Air Force scored to start the 4th quarter and looked to make a comeback.

With a few minutes left in the game, the Falcons were set to punt but an unusual penalty kept the drive alive. Boise State had two players with the same jersey number on the field. This kept the drive alive and Air Force was able to keep winding down the clock.

Reeling from the penalty, Boise State dug deep and sealed the Falcon's fate with a 4th down stop. The turnover on downs handed Boise State the ball and the win.

Boise State's rushing game didn't experience nearly the same amount of success as it had the past two weeks, with the ground game going for just 115 yards and 1 touchdown. Conversely, the passing game contributed much more to Boise State's offense, with Taylen Green going 16-14 for 207 yards. Green was unable to find the end zone however, and had an interception.

Still, good offensive drives put kicker Jonah Dalmas in positions to score. Dalmas went 4-4 from field goals, his longest a 51-yarder.

Air Force, the nation's No. 1 running game, was held to less than half of their season average. The Falcons came into the game averaging 360 rushing yards per game, but could only account for 175 yards.

Boise State improves to 5-2 and 4-0 in conference play. The Broncos hold a 1-game lead over at least every team in the division.
