DETROIT (CelebrityAccess) Little Caesars Arena, which opened last September, is already switching all of its 18,600 seats from red ones to black ones.
The arena announced Monday it will begin a months-long installation of the black seats starting in December. The change is possibly inspired by how visible empty red seats are on television during Detroit Red Wings and Detroit Pistons games, according to the Detroit Free-Press. The teams have argued that the fans are in attendance but dispersed throughout the venue’s bars and clubs.
Meanwhile, the red seats were covered with black covers during the Piston’s preseason opener against the Brooklyn Nets.
“When the Pistons agreed to move downtown Detroit, many design features were either finalized or already in production,” Ilitch Holdings representative Chris Granger said, according to the Free-Press. “We very much value our partnership with the Pistons organization and have made this decision together. This change is also made with support and input from industry-leading concert promoters and our television partners, Fox Sports Detroit.
“The transition to permanent black seats will take several months, but will have no impact on our guests’ event-day experience.”
