Floyd Mayweather and John Gotti III fought in a boxing event at the Arena CDMX in Mexico City. Floyd Mayweather, accompanied by Los Angeles Lakers star Anthony Davis, walked to the ring to face John Gotti III on Saturday. The event also had many matches featuring Mexican fighters who represented their culture through the sport.
Floyd Mayweather is known to bring world-renowned celebrities like Justin Bieber, Snoop Dogg, and Lil Wayne to accompany him to fights. This time, Anthony Davis was bestowed the responsibility. Mayweather is known in the boxing world for his flawless record of going 50-0. This was the second bout between both stars who had their previous fight in 2023. Their previous fight ended in Gotti III getting disqualified for holding.
Davis and Mayweather are a part of different sports but have shown their respect to both fields. Mayweather officially retired from boxing in 2017 after his last fight against Connor McGregor. But still, Mayweather is active through exhibition matches in the boxing world.
Davis is coming off a fresh victory from the 2024 Paris Olympics winning the gold medal. The Lakers star was one of the main stars of the team and anchored USA’s defense. This was Davis’s second gold medal in the Olympics representing Team USA. He certainly added the veteran experience to the team from past international basketball experience.
Anthony Davis believes in accountability as the first step for championship
Anthony Davis joined LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers in 2019. In the first year, both stars won the championship. After which the Lakers’ journey to the playoffs has been a rollercoaster. Due to many bad management decisions and almost trading of their whole championship core, the Lakers are stuck with a poor supporting cast.
Recently, Davis sat down with Joe Vardon of the Athletic and talked about the Lakers’ current situation. During the interview, Davis stated that he believes in accountability as the first step to winning a championship. In the last season, the Lakers got eliminated in the first round by the Denver Nuggets.
The goal at the end of the day is still to win championships, You can’t skip steps. The first step is we’re going to hold guys accountable. Both LeBron James and Anthony Davis have certainly carried the team on their shoulders for the last few seasons. The Lakers have also not made any major moves this offseason except acquiring JJ Redick as the head coach. It will be interesting to see how the next season unfolds for the Lakers.
