Would like to have a little more equality- Barbara Schett calls out the sexism storm in the Fr

Barbara Schett, a former tennis player, anticipated that the women will discuss the discrepancy at the French Open. The French Open has been chastised for scheduling night matches, with only one women’s match taking place during the grand slam’s prime time schedule thus far. Only one of the ten singles matches on Court Phillipe Chatrier planned for the night-time slot was a women’s match between Alize Cornet and Jelena Ostapenko.

Rafa Nadal, the 13-time French Open champion, will face World No. 1 Novak Djokovic in the most recent encounter. The schedule, on the other hand, has caused some consternation among tennis fans. The night session, which Amazon Prime has exclusive rights to broadcast in France, begins at 9 p.m. local time and was first featured at the 2021 edition of the clay-court major.

“I think the women are definitely talking about the night sessions”- Barbara Schett

“I think the women are definitely talking about the night sessions and I’m sure it’ll come up in the players’ meetings as well, that women want to have more night sessions – not only one out of 10. This will be addressed by the WTA, I’m sure some of the players or the head of the WTA will speak to Roland-Garros and say ‘okay, we would like to have a little more equality’ – so it’s definitely a topic among the players, ” Barbara Schett told Eurosport.

“You have to put the best matches at night, that’s for sure, and I would have loved to have seen a few more women’s matches. I think if you schedule a women’s match it would be great to see a doubles match afterwards. The only worry is that for the tournament director they are selling these night sessions individually, and if you have a match which is too short, the crowd will not like it.“What has to be done is a few more women’s night matches and a doubles later. Then everyone is happy, ” Barbara Schett added.
